A hand-operated leather sewing machine gives the operator direct control of the drive without relying on a foot pedal. Before choosing one, consider the complete motion of sewing the intended seam rather than treating manual operation as a simple substitute for a motor.
Hand operated does not describe one mechanism
Listings may use hand crank, manual, lever operated or hand sewing loosely. A crank-driven patcher, a lever-operated stitcher and a handheld sewing awl are different tools. Identify the mechanism and stitch formation of the actual product before comparing speed or capacity.
A sewing awl can form a seam through a manual process, but it is not equivalent to a machine with a feeding system and bobbin arrangement. A patcher can provide access to repairs, but that does not make it a general-purpose production machine for flat leather goods. Think about what each hand must do

Manual operation does not remove the need for correct tension, threading and needle installation. It may make the movement easier to observe, but the machine still has a specific stitch-forming sequence. A low price can be appropriate for a buyer who understands the setup work and limitations. It can be disappointing for someone expecting a ready-to-use alternative to a supported industrial machine.
