Choose colors against the leather

A thread shade seen on a screen can look different beside a hide in workshop lighting. Consider whether the seam should disappear into the leather or act as a visible design line. Strong contrast makes uneven spacing easier to see. Before sewing the finished item, make a sample long enough to judge the effect at ordinary viewing distance. Include corners and a folded section if those will be visible in the final piece.

Keep size compatibility separate

The fact that several colors come together does not change the machine’s thread limitations. Confirm a suitable needle and supported setup before buying the set. Label samples with the selected color and settings so a later project can be matched consistently. Compare the assortment with a single larger spool if most of your work uses one shade; unused colors do not add practical value. Store the spools where loose ends stay controlled and dirt does not enter the thread path. If you change colors during a project, follow the full threading procedure and test again rather than assuming that the machine is ready immediately after the swap.
